But Will It Grow?
Thank god I have my CSA because if I was in charge of growing food to feed my family I’m pretty sure we’d starve. You know that lovely organic cedar garden box Kelly built for me for Mother’s Day? It sat empty, for over a week, while two tons of dirt waited patiently at the top of our driveway. It’s been one of those weeks. Just last night, Kelly finally got the sucker filled up.

In the meantime I went ahead and picked up some herbs, leeks, peppers, tomatoes, and arugula and kept them stacked up like planes at O’Hare for just as long. Today, I finally got around to actually planting.
Good thing too because we go out of town this weekend. Perhaps you thought I was kidding when I mentioned earlier that it was going to be a total crapshoot to pull off this hippie garden. Not even a full two weeks into this whole situation and I’m already negligent parenting.
I should also mention that I managed to pick up enough to fill exactly half my garden box. Soo……I’m not sure how the other half will go. I have some notes and some ideas, but am, as you can see, flailing around rather aimlessly.
When I was planting today I tried desperately to keep my rows even, as I read that symmetry is very important in a vegetable garden. Well that also didn’t work out quite as I hoped. The rows looked even and clean when the plants were lined up in their little individual containers, but apparently I was a little off in the actual planting. Instead of squares I’ve got parallelograms.
I’m not going to lose faith just yet, but if vegetable gardening is an endeavor where attention to detail is critical, well, at least we’ll have some funny stories to share this summer.
